People are different — in habits, backgrounds and ways of loving. Not every difference is a red flag. Ask these three questions.
1. Is it about safety or respect?
Threats, control, lies about who they are, pressure about money or physical boundaries — these are red flags, whatever the explanation.
2. Is it a pattern?
Everyone has a bad day. A pattern of the same behaviour after you’ve raised it is different.
3. Can you talk about it?
If you can raise it and they listen, it may simply be a difference — something to work through. If raising it leads to anger, mockery or punishment, take note.
Differences worth discussing (not red flags)
- Introvert vs. extrovert
- Different love languages
- Different family traditions
- Saving vs. spending habits (as long as you can talk about them)
