Emotional maturity has little to do with age or status. It’s about how a person handles life when it doesn’t go their way — and it matters enormously in a long relationship.

Signs to look for (and to grow in yourself)

  • They own their mistakes without excuses or blaming others.
  • They can name their feelings — “I’m frustrated” rather than slamming doors.
  • They stay respectful when angry. No insults, no silent treatment as punishment.
  • They can wait — for answers, for trust, for the right time.
  • They’re curious about your view, even when they disagree.
  • They keep small promises.
