Getting a match feels great. Then comes the hard part: what do you say? And when the chat is going well, how do you actually get to a first date? SeekMyHeart now has three tools that help with exactly that.
1. Like with a comment
Instead of a plain like, you can like a particular photo or answer and add a short note about it. Tap the heart on one of their photos, or Like and comment under one of their answers or Daily Heart Question answers, and say what caught your eye.
- It shows you really looked. “Your answer about Sunday jollof made me smile” beats “hi” every time.
- It starts the chat for you. If you match, your comment becomes the first message — so the conversation begins with something real.
- Keep it kind and short. Phone numbers and social handles can't be shared in comments — the contact-sharing rule still applies.
2. Chat games when you don't know what to say
Every chat has a 🎲 button with two quick games:
- This or That. We send two fun choices — “Jollof or fried rice?”, “Beach day or movie night?” — and your match picks one. Easy to answer, and a great way into a longer conversation.
- Two truths and a lie. Write three things about yourself and tick which one isn't true. Your match guesses; the lie stays hidden until they do.
If a match has been waiting a day for your reply, we'll send you a gentle “your turn” reminder — never at night, and never for chats you've muted.
3. Plan a date from the chat
When you're ready to meet, tap the calendar in the chat:
- Choose one of our Date spots or another busy public place.
- Pick a day and a time, and add a short note if you like.
- Your match can accept, decline, or suggest another time.
Once it's a date, you both get a reminder a few hours before. With one tap you can also share your plan with a trusted friend using the date safety check-in — it's already filled in with who, where and when.
Sending a date idea comes with our paid plans; anyone can answer one, whatever their plan.
Our tips for a great first date
- Meet in public — a café, a restaurant or a park with people around.
- Arrange your own transport and tell a friend where you'll be.
- Never send money to someone you met online, for any reason. Read our safe first date checklist.
- Keep it short. Coffee or lunch is perfect; you can always plan a second date.
