Commitment is a decision, not just a feeling. These questions help you check you’re ready — alone first, then together.

  1. Do I want this person, or do I want to stop being single?
  2. Do we agree on faith and how we’ll live it?
  3. Have we talked about children — whether, when and how many?
  4. How will we handle money: joint, separate or both?
  5. How involved will our families be?
  6. How do we handle disagreements, and do we repair afterwards?
  7. Do I trust them when they’re not around?
  8. Do I like who I am around them?
  9. Have I seen how they behave when stressed, tired or disappointed?
  10. Are there things I’m hoping will change after we commit?

That last one matters most: commit to who someone is now, not who you hope they’ll become.
